Do you like this picture? No? You find the picture bleak? Inhospitable? Depressing? OK, got it. To be honest, I felt the same way when I took it some days ago in the industrial zone of the small Polish town of Tłuszcz near Warszawa. But why? There is so much useful there. So much that enables people to live better lives. An overhead line that moves people in electrically powered trains. A noise barrier that protects people from the noise of the trains. A bridge that takes them safely across the tracks. A street lamp that lights the way at night. An advertising space that (if someone pays for it) advertises services or products. And a car (driving straight out of the frame) that takes people to a place of their choice. Couldn’t there be a way to perceive this picture as beautiful?
