P: Good morning, Economist.
E: Good morning, Photographer.
P: I passed this Max & Moritz mural yesterday. A story about two rascals whose story ends badly.
E: I know the story too well.
P: Anyway, what came to mind when looking at the picture: I thought how nice it would be if there were no thefts. Suppose you didn't have to lock your bike and your apartment door. I would love to live in such a world.
E: Probably a utopia. But maybe we'll get close one day.
P: Isn't the number of thefts increasing all the time?
E: At least not in Germany. Since the mid-2010s, the number of recorded cases of theft has been falling fairly steadily.
P: I would not have thought that.
E: Because good news isn’t in the news.
< silence >
P: Have you ever stolen anything, Economist?
E: I'm too scared of getting caught.
P: Have you ever stolen anything?
E: You are persistent. Once, as a teenager, I stole a warning light from a construction site.
P: Why that?
E: Is there a reasonable explanation for everything you do as a teenager?
P: You've got a point there. Have a nice day, Economist!
E: Have a nice day, Photographer.
